Pakistan: Pakistani Maulana ridicules and insults Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singhji.
‘Ranjit Singh was a kaafir, kana, evil, dacoit” -Maulana Tariq Jameel
Maharaja Ranjit Singh, hailed as Sher-e-Punjab, is disrespected in Pakistan, where he is derogatorily called a “one-eyed dacoit.” His legacy as a unifier and builder of a powerful Sikh empire is overshadowed by deep-seated prejudice. His statue in Lahore has been repeatedly vandalized, reflecting the disdain for non-Muslim rulers who dared to challenge historical Muslim empires.
This hatred stems from a biased historical narrative that glorifies Muslim conquests while vilifying non-Muslim leaders. Ranjit Singh’s success in establishing an independent kingdom in a predominantly Muslim region is viewed with hostility, not admiration.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s legacy is deliberately marginalized, portraying him as an oppressor rather than a unifying leader. His achievements are overlooked, and his contributions to the subcontinent are denied acknowledgment. This hostility reflects a broader intolerance within the national psyche against any non-believer who asserts power in opposition to Islamic rule.
