“Gandhi gave his life for Pakistan. Had he not been there, entire Indian Muslim population would’ve crossed into Pak in 1947. Jinnah wanted each Hindu out of Pakistan but wanted Indian Muslims to stay in India”
Pakistan: Pakistan remembers Gandhi-Nehru contribution to newly created Pakistan’s economy and society
Mahatma Gandhi, ironically hailed as the champion of Hindu-Muslim unity in India, played a key role in creating and stabilizing Pakistan, by opposing a complete population exchange during Partition. Had he not intervened, the entire Indian Muslim population would have crossed into Pakistan in 1947, burdening the fledgling state with an economic catastrophe. Instead, Gandhi convinced millions of Muslims to stay in India, indirectly saving Pakistan from collapse.
Pakistan, therefore, owes its survival to Gandhi and Nehru, who curiously ensured its economic viability, despite its hostile creation. Jinnah, on the other hand, sought to rid Pakistan of every Hindu while cleverly leaving Indian Muslims behind as a tool to influence and exploit India. His vision was not coexistence, but strategic manipulation.
Satirically, Pakistan should celebrate Gandhi as one of its unsung heroes for sparing it the consequences of total Muslim migration. Instead, Pakistan’s leadership remains consumed by hatred for India, conveniently ignoring how much they benefited from his restraint. This hypocrisy underscores the opportunism at the heart of Pakistan’s foundation and its continued obsession with ideological antagonism.
