Pakistan: Celebrating cow-slaughter on Pak TV channel
A Pakistani news channel aired a shocking display of insensitivity and hostility toward Hindu beliefs. The guest recited a crass poem mocking the sacredness of Kashi (Varanasi, the holiest city of the Hindus), Tulsi (Holy Basil, a plant revered by Hindus) and Hindu reverence for cow as a mother figure. This vulgar act of taunting Hindus’ deeply-held religious sentiments highlights a broader pattern of deliberate provocation and disrespect.
Taunts against Hindu customs and beliefs are disturbingly common in Pakistan. Hindus are often ridiculed with phrases like “cow-piss drinkers” and “cow dung eaters,” reflecting both ignorance and malice. Sacred animals, plants and traditions revered by Hindus become targets for mockery in a bid to demean their identity.
Particularly during festivals like Eid, the slaughter of cows—a sacred animal for Hindus and worshipped as a mother—is intentionally highlighted to incite and taunt them. This practice, often celebrated publicly, weaponizes religious differences, eroding chances of mutual respect. Public figures and celebrities take special pride in flaunting their slaughtering skills and inciting provocation against the Hindu religious minority.
