The Pakistani Partition violence against minorities were organized military campaigns rather than spontaneous riots. Maulavis continuously instigated violent Islamist mobs against Hindus-Sikhs, promising them Allah’s grace and place in Jannat. Historian Ishtiaq Ahmed mentions about secret meetings in mosques, proclaiming jihad; minorities were disarmed with false assurances on the Quran. Once defenseless, they faced barbaric attacks. Looters ransacked homes and shops, setting them ablaze, while Hindu men were mass murdered. Hindu women and girls, regardless of their age, were viciously gangraped, killed and their dead bodies mutilated.
Despite the widespread atrocities, neither Mohammad Ali Jinnah nor the Muslim League condemned the ethnic cleansing of Hindus and Sikhs. This silence highlights Islamist Pakistan’s total disregard for humanity during a period that tore apart millions of lives, leaving deep scars on the subcontinent’s history.
